About The ShowAbout The Show

Britains Iconic Fish

James and Ripon's journey started back in 2015 meeting on BBC's fishing programme Earth's Wildest Waters - The Big Fish. Despite being total strangers and in competition against each other, James and Ripon struck up a close friendship. James was fortunate enough to make the final and win. Two years later they decided to join forces and thus The Untamed Anglers were born.

This time however the adventure would be closer to home and concentrating on the incredible fish we have on our doorstep. Britain has some truly incredible fish residing in its waters that do not get the credit or coverage they deserve. We showcase these species on film like never before and celebrate their status as an Iconic Fish.

It's hard to decide what species can claim the title and justify it, but we have narrowed it down to our Top 8, through research and help from hundreds of anglers across the country. Our Iconic Fish cover Game and Coarse categories over 5 action packed episodes.

Episodes

Each episode consists of 2 parts, introducing famous figures from the fishing world, telling their story and sharing their fishing secrets.

Part One a species expert giving all 3 anglers a crash course on tactics and equipment, learning about the fish's history, habitat and feeding, aiding our quest to catch the target species. Our guest shares their belief as to why that the species can be celebrated as one of Britain's most iconic, as we weigh up the pros and cons of why it's a contender through the history and lifecycle of the species and techniques and methods used to target them.

Part Two is the BIG competition. Two teams of 2 anglers go head to head, with a multitude of different competition rules and species no week is the same. We use everything we've learned from the previous day and all our fishing experience to help us succeed.

Meet The CastMeet The Cast

James Stokoe

After being a salmon fishing fanatic for over 20 years, James decided to take the leap from being a car salesman to full time Salmon fishing guide on the river Tyne. A massive influence on his decision was being part of and winning the popular BBC TV eries Earths Wildest Waters - The Big Fish.  After shooting to angling fame, James has since been lucky enough to have a presenting role on BT sports On The Bank, presenting on live Tv for World fishing day, featuring on country file, and being an ambassador for numerous fishing organisations.  You’ll be hard fetched to find a more excitable and fanatical fishing nut than this lad.

Ripon Khalique

Ripon is an absolute certified coarse fishing fanatic with his favourite fish being chub and barbel. Out of us all Ripon was the earliest starter, fishing from the incredible age of 3 where he was taught to fish by his father who had learned to fish as a child in Bangladesh. Ripon’s love of fishing is connected to his family’s roots where being able to fish meant being able to eat. Rip was also a contestant on BBC's the Big Fish and this is how James and Ripon met, it was always meant to be.

Hywel Morgon

Son of Welsh fishing guru Moc Morgan, Hywel was introduced to fishing at an exceptionally early age at just two and a half years old and spent his early years fishing the Rivers Teifi and Ystwyth for wild Brown Trout and Sea Trout. Since then he has fished extensively throughout the UK, Europe, Australia and in the USA. Starting at local country fairs, then progressed to the CLA Game Fair where for three successive years he won every event, all before he was sixteen years old. He then turned to the British Casting Association and started to compete at British, European and World casting championships. During this time he amassed the following titles: World Games Accuracy Casting Champion, European Distance Casting Champion, European Silver Medallist (Accuracy), 14 British casting records, 6 times All Round British Champion, Over 100 British Individual titles World Record holder for multiple casting (66 rods cast simultaneously).

Now the best of friends the team is already planning series 2 and 3.
